Education Advocacy

Kirwan Commission Recommendations and the 2020 General Assembly Session
DBFA is proud to partner with Strong Schools Maryland to advocate for full funding of the Kirwan Commission recommendations.  Officially called House Bill 1300-Blueprint for Maryland's Future-Implementation, this legislation is a once in a generation opportunity to fairly fund public schools across the state of Maryland.  More information about what the Kirwan Commission recommendations are and the work to fund them can be found here.

Another bill with implications for Baltimore City public school students is House Bill 1 The Built to Learn Act.  This bill, which has passed the House and is being heard in the Senate, will provide funding for much needed renovation of current schools as well as construction of new school buildings.

DBFA encourages our members to contact their representatives in Annapolis any way you can!  If a morning in Annapolis is something you can take time to do please contact Strong Schools Maryland here.  No advocacy experience is necessary!  Strong Schools representatives will give you a t-shirt, talking points, and materials to hand out to legislators.  If you can't make it to Annapolis find contact information for your state representative here and make a call, send a letter, or write an email to let them know you support the full funding for these two important bills!
