What DBFA Membership Means...
Twelve years ago, three mom’s met in a kitchen a few blocks off the Inner-Harbor, each one with a vision of a city where families could thrive. At that time, there were very few programs and opportunities for new parents, and very little incentive for families to stay in the city once their children grew into their school age years. It didn’t take too long before other families joined their vision, and the Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance was born.
Rooted in the idea that a strong network of families could bring new life into the surrounding downtown neighborhoods, after a couple of years, our numbers grew into the hundreds. As a result, parks and playgrounds began to be transformed. Public schools witnessed a rise in enrollment, and an empowered network of Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) began to see success in their schools. Our New Babies on the Block program welcomed more and more families committed to staying in the city. And programs like our Meet the Big Kids showed parents that raising children in an urban setting could make for a wonderful experience.
Today, DBFA numbers in the thousands with families, educators, and advocates planting their roots in neighborhoods across town. And together, our alliance strives to make Baltimore a city we all love to call home.
Consider becoming apart of DBFA’s family. Membership starts at no cost, with sustaining member levels for individuals and households also available.
